FIRST AND THIRD SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH

First Sunday ScheduleShambhala Sun Day

The head of the Shambhala community, Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, has said many times that the core contributions of the Shambhala teachings are acknowledging basic goodness and creating enlightened society.  Inspired by this, the Shambhala Center of Washington, DC, is pleased to offer a gathering on the first Sunday of each month to connect with basic goodness and to celebrate our society – the Shambhala Sun Day. Everyone is welcome, whether it is your first time or you have been practicing for years. Please join the community!

9:00–10:15am: Meditation practice and instruction; practice period begins and ends with chants (come and leave anytime during this period).  Meditation instruction is available.  During our meditation practice on the first Sunday of the month, we include a meditation practice for those who are seriously ill.  This practice is called Matri Bhavana.

10:30–11:30am: Shambhala Sun Day Program  includes meditation, a short talk, discussion, and some teachings and activities that are appropriate for all ages, including children.

11:30am–12:30pm: Shambhala Sun Day Social includes tea, coffee, food, and good company. If you feel inspired, please bring a dish to share!

Third Sunday Schedule
9:00–11:00am: Meditation practice and instruction; practice period begins and ends with Buddhist chants (come and leave anytime during this period).

11:00am-12:00pm: Sadhana of Mahamudra (Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in the Sadhana of Mahamudra practice.)

Note: The third Sunday practice schedule may be adjusted when other weekend programs are offered; please check the calendar.

EVERY MONDAY

6:00–6:45pm: Evening meditation practice.
No meditation instruction offered on Mondays.

EVERY TUESDAY

6:00–6:45pm: Evening meditation practice.
No meditation instruction offered on Tuesdays.

EVERY THURSDAY

First Thursday Schedule
7:00-8:30pm: Learn to meditate, or refreshen and deepen your practice.
This session is devoted to group meditation instruction and guidance suitable for both first-time visitors and more experienced meditators, including Q&A and discussion, and followed by refreshments.
7:00-8:00pm: Evening meditation practice in small shrine room for those who do not wish to participate in the group meditation instruction.

Rest of the Month Thursday Schedule
7:00-8:30pm:
 Evening meditation practice and instruction in the first half hour, then an hour-long Dharma talk or presentation with discussion (see Calendar for topics), followed by refreshmentsMeditation instruction is offered from 7:00 to 7:30pm.

Everyone is welcome. There is no charge for meditation sessions or meditation instruction. Please check the calendar for updates to the schedule.
