“By making a deep connection to the present moment and understanding our mind through the practice of meditation, we learn to make friends with ourselves…”

While meditation has many benefits, establishing a consistent personal practice can be extremely challenging for both new and experienced meditators alike. In that spirit, the Shambhala Meditation Center of Washington, DC presents the Meditation in Everyday Life course.

This 3-week Mindfulness Meditation program is designed to help new meditators develop a regular practice and bring the benefits of mindfulness meditation to their daily lives. As we begin to practice on a regular basis, we learn to relax and simply be with confidence, dignity, and patience with the full richness of our human experience. Over time, this meditation helps us to cultivate courage, humor, and stability in the face of the challenges and complexities of jobs, relationships, and all aspects of daily life.

Meditation in Everyday Life
combines technique and view in a setting of support and community to provide you with everything you need to build a healthy, strong meditation practice.

Three 2-hour-long classes cover the following ground:

Class 1: Posture & Foundations of Meditation

Class 2: Emotions, Thoughts & Human Worthiness

Class 3: Bringing Meditation Into Daily Life and the Wider World

As a theme throughout the course, we’ll explore how creating stability and gentleness in our minds can expand outward to benefit our friends, family, neighbors, and society as a whole.

Participants are strongly encouraged to purchase a copy of the book
Turning the Mind into an Ally
by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, which will be used in this and future courses.

Meditation in Everyday Life is the first class in the Way of Shambhala, a complete path of weekly classes and weekend retreats that provides a comprehensive overview of mindfulness and contemplative meditation techniques. In addition, the Way of Shambhala presents profound, simple, and relevant teachings on how we can bring our meditation practice into every facet of daily life.

We encourage
Meditation in Everyday Life participants to also take The Art of Being Human: Shambhala Training Level I, a companion weekend workshop to this program.
