Responding to Conflict with Compassion Workshop/Book Club

Note: We start at 7:00 PM EST (Eastern US time zone).

In this monthly online workshop and book club, we explore practices that bridge mindfulness, self-awareness, and working with conflict, in a safe and friendly virtual space. We practice the approaches and discuss the framework of Henry Yampolsky's ground-breaking book, Dis-Solving Conflict from Within: An Inner Path for Conflict Transformation.

Each month we engage with a chapter or section, including concepts and practical techniques, led by and working with our own community facilitators who are trained in this work. The outcome is being able to apply these techniques to conflict in our own lives, whether personal or professional, with the confidence of having worked on them together.

The ongoing workshop/book club format will allow us to explore in-depth the nature of conflict, in a safe and facilitated space, and will empower participants to learn to respond to conflict, violence, and division with strength, clarity, and compassion, as opposed to reacting with fear, avoidance, or aggression.

We meet on the third Tuesday of each month, from January 2024 to November 2024, with no meeting in July or August - a total of nine sessions. Drop-ins are welcome, but please try to have read the material. We will post each month's reading here.

Reading for first session, January 16: Chapters 1-2 and mantra I am here now. Suggested daily practice - connected breathing technique from page 46, turning inward - or use your own practice.

Reading for February 20:  Chapter 3 Anatomy of Conflict, using breath and other techniques to manage response – practice reframe and use of emotional intelligence.
